A very large clear, four character 中華民國 Chinese Republic overprint in black. Set of 5 values, the 1f, 2f and the 10f have been found inverted. These are the only stamps known for this village.

Note: There appear to be two versions of this chop, one with a small knob on the top right hand corner of the 中 "chung" character as shown in Kerr (see sketch above), and another version without the knob as illustrated here and in the photographs used by Chan. The examples without the knob are genuine, Kerr has warnings in his book that the images are simply sketches and the faker had obviously not studied any real stamps. These stamps have been identified by using Volume II of the Stamp Catalogue of China by Shui-Hon Chan and the four booklet guide The Local Overprinted Stamps of Manchuria 1945-7 by Allen D Kerr (published 1978 and now out of print). Both works are essential for anyone delving seriously into this subject. |
